EMPIRE DE MAULDE went one better on Merseyside following his second at Aintree in May, seeing off the field by five-and-a-half lengths under former champion jockey, Brian Hughes.
The 7/2 favourite, trained by James Ewart, secured a fifth career win in the process on his first appearance over three-miles and a furlong.
Hughes was denied a double in the finale, however, as the Rebecca Curtis representative Ruthless Article won for the first time over fences under Sean Bowen.
As with the aforementioned Empire De Maulde, Solar Impulse further franked the Captain Tom Cat form when seeing off Miss Amelia under Charlie Todd.
Koi Dodville’s long journey to the north-west paid dividends for David Pipe as the French recruit shrugged off a penalty to win by 11-lengths, while Cotton End got back to winning ways for Sheila Lewis.
Iain Jardine’s She’sasupermack carried a huge lump of weight to victory, while the superb vein of form from female trainer’s was kickstarted by My Bobby Dazzler took the curtain opener under Alex Edwards.
