After the sad news broke of Trevor Hemmings’ passing, today’s rewind is dedicated to one of the owner’s great triumphs – with Many Clouds in the 2015 Grand National at Aintree.
Trained by Oliver Sherwood, the gelding went off as a 25/1 shot for the contest and was in close proximity of the leaders for the majority of the race.
The then eight-year-old was then left in the lead with five fences remaining, after the well-backed The Druids Nephew fell late on.
Hemmings’ star continued to drive forward and he pushed three lengths into the lead after clearing the last fence.
The gelding fought off the advances of Saint Are in the home straight to win by one and three-quarter lengths at Aintree.
Many Clouds sadly died of a severe pulmonary haemorrhage in 2017, shortly after producing a career-best performance in the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham.
