To celebrate Megan Nicholls turning 24, today’s rewind looks back at her victory with the promising Knappers Hill in the Grade 2 Bumper at the Grand National Festival at Aintree back in April.
Trained by her father Paul, the five-year-old was held up at the back of the pack for the majority of the contest, with Nicholls pushing him on with four furlongs remaining.
Carrying the same silks as popular chaser Frodon, the gelding made headway in the closing stages and began to charge through the field.
The son of Valirann found himself in second place with two furlongs remaining and he began to wear down his stablemate Stage Star.
He pushed into the lead in the final furlong and kept on well, fending off the late challenge of Peking Rose to win by half a length and land a hat-trick of bumper successes.
Paul Nicholls’ prospect will be most likely tacking hurdles as his next challenge in the upcoming season.
