A pair of runners that competed at Aintree two weeks ago hold entries in a 2m1f Handicap Hurdle at Cartmel on Sunday.

Cotton End, who landed the 2m½f Handicap Hurdle at Aintree, returns at action with a 6lb hike in the ratings following her success at the Merseyside track.

The mare has shown considerable progress under Sheila Lewis in the past couple of seasons, jumping up 34lbs since last September.

The seven-year-old has built a promising partnership with conditional jockey Ben Jones, as they have won two of their three starts together.

She will need to defy a career-high mark in this contest, but she could well continue to show further progress here.

Fiesole, who finished third in the same contest two weeks ago, sits at a dangerous mark and could well prove a threat to his counterparts here.

A recent recruit of Dr Richard Newland, the gelding showed some promise on his stable debut and could well strike on his second start for the Worcestershire training.

His last success came under former trainer Olly Murphy, when he claimed the Sussex Champion Hurdle back in 2019 when only 3lbs lower.

Cotton End holds a price of 9/2, while Fiesole is currently standing at a general price of 5/1 for the contest at Carmel on Sunday.
