After claiming his first hat-trick of successes last month, Captain Tom Cat could return to action at Market Rasen this weekend.
The six-year-old, who was last seen storming home to a 29-length success at Worcester just under three weeks ago, aims to land his fourth win over fences for Dr Richard Newland.
The gelding is currently unbeaten over the larger obstacles and is the current favourite for the 2m5½ Grade 3 contest, sitting at 6/1 with some firms.
The son of Dylan Thomas has shot up in the ratings this season, starting at a mark of 125 at the beginning of May.
After thundering home in a 2m4f Handicap Chase at Aintree in May, he followed that up with two comfortable successes at Worcester in June.
The six-year-old has shot up 22lbs in the ratings since his chase debut and looks an exciting prospect over fences for Dr Newland.
Following his second victory over fences in early June, his trainer couldn’t contain his excitement.
“We were always very keen to go chasing with him. He’s a big, scopey horse, jumps for fun and enjoys front-running.”
It was declared by Newland that the Market Rasen Summer Plate was one of his targets, alongside the Galway Plate at the end of this month.
His assignment in Lincolnshire will be his toughest to date, as he could face the likes of Clarke Chase winner Francky Du Berlais and Topham Chase runner-up Pink Eyed Pedro
However, he has barely put a foot wrong over the larger obstacles to date and could well be the one to beat in the Summer Plate this weekend.
