GRAND NATIONAL FESTIVAL DAY TWO SELECTION: Fakir D’oudairies | 3:30pm Marsh Chase (Grade 1)

The Melling Chase headlines proceedings on Ladies Day for the 2022 Grand National Festival and last year’s winner Fakir D’oudairies has as good a chance as any once again.

He is probably the second-best horse in training over the intermediate trip, finding duel Ryanair winner Allaho too good on many an occasion, but he took this race twelve months ago and won the Ascot Chase when last seen.

At 7-years-old, he should be just about approaching his prime and with course form evident, he should take the stopping once again.

Venetia Williams’s Funamblue Sivola ran a cracker in the Champion Chase but looks a better two-miler on form, while Allmankind won the Old Roan here in October but has questions to answer on his showings since.

In a weak enough Grade 1, perhaps Captain Guinness looks the each-way play as he steps up in trip for the first time.
