Abacadabras became a three-time Grade 1 winner when he landed the Betway Aintree Hurdle a week ago today at the Grand National Festival.

The Gigginstown House Stud representative was an early faller in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, but took the step up in trip in his stride when seeing off the Nicky Henderson trained Buzz by just over a length.

A 5-1 shot, the son of Davidoff idled slightly on the run-in but held off his challengers to exact redemption from his Prestbury Park tumble.

His pilot told Sky Sports in the aftermath: “Two and a half miles there, ridden patiently, it suited him great – and he jumped great.

“I’m delighted for the whole team back at home, Cullentra – they’re one of the best teams in racing and they work extremely hard, so it’s brilliant to reward them with winners like this.”

Aintree next hosts race action on Friday 14th May

Abacadabras remains with an entry for the Paddy Power Champion Hurdle at Punchestown later this month.
