Former Grade 1 Maghull Novices’ Chase hero Ornua bids for a quickfire July two-timer at Limerick on Thursday afternoon under 7lb claimer Mike O’Connor for trainer, Henry de Bromhead.

The Mahler gelding, now aged 10, won at Tramore earlier this month but returns to life over timber in Munster in a small but select four-runner Caherconlish Hurdle field at 6:10pm.

Standing in his way include Denise Foster’s unexposed Benbulen Boy and The Getaway Star, who has won just once since his duo of bumper successes in 2019.


Ultra-consistent, he has either won or placed in 24 of his 37 racecourse appearances since debuting at Clonmel under rules back in 2016, and he did appear in the Grand National Festival previously when finishing a fair way down the pecking order in the Top Novices’ three years ago.

But it would be over the larger obstacles where he would claim his biggest day in the sun, putting the wrongs of his Arkle mishap right with a splendid display on Merseyside next time out when seeing off fellow 3-1 joint-favourite, Us And Them.
